7 Lessons from Link – the smart one

My dog, Link, also my best friend, has taught me so much about life. He has been the greatest teacher of loyalty and kindness. In his heart-warming way I have seen what it means to have a true friend. He literally shows up each and every day, regardless of what the day is like.

True Life Lessons:

1. Love Unconditionally

He does not just love freely, he shows it. Always greeting with excitement after not seeing me, no matter how long the time away was. We should show our love with a smile, a hug and our full attention.

2. Forgive Quickly

We all make mistakes and have day we are not our best. It is okay. Accept that others do too, and move on. Holding onto past hurts will only hurt yourself. Let it go, for the sake of moving forward with positivity.

3. Be Curious

Explore everything. Ask questions. Look around to learn something new. Make each day a new experience and snoop around. For instance, maybe that means doing something you have been wanting to do. Do it.

4. Have Play Time

Take time each day for fun. Run, jump or dance, but leave worries of daily life, even for a short time. It is important to be social, enjoy friends company, laugh and be happy.

5. Rest When You Need

Our body and mind need to have down time to regroup. Having a moment of quiet to simply relax is a basic aspect of self-care. It is a much needed was for us to be supportive of ourselves. Furthermore, doing this is can lead to a more productive day.

6. Be Compassionate To Others

Being supportive of others emotionally can make the world a more harmonious place. Understand the needs of others and be there for them. This can mean not speaking but holding their hand through a rough time. Remember, listening to the unspoken words is truly empathy at its core.

7. Life Is An Adventure

Look to the future with enthusiasm, not knowing what will be. At the same time, know it is what you were meant for. Remove the doubts and go with it. Life is an adventure, if we see it that way. Therefore, view life as exciting and full of wonder. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.

The Final Exam

As a final point, we may put our canine friends through some kind of training, however we can also be taught too. It is a blessing for us to have the opportunity to have such love from another being. I, myself, find great joy and happiness from the time spent with my Link. They always say a dog is man’s best friend. If you are not quite convinced yet, volunteer at your local shelter. It is full of animals just waiting to bless your day.

Connecting Nature to You:

  • Do you have a pet, or person, who you can show your love and devotion to? Or take lessons from?
  1. If not, look harder, or pick a random person and allow them to open your eyes and heart to whatever comes.
  2. Take note, and listen to yourself. Nap when you need to, smile for no reason, and follow your loving heart.
