Growing like a weed – strong and motivated

We all come to a time in our life when we hit rock bottom, as we call it; been there – done that. It is really just a play on words. It cannot be that we are starting over, but just on the verge of starting something new. Starting from the bottom is not possible, we are never the same person. We have evolved, learned new lessons and expanded ourselves.

Each time you decide to grow again, you realize you’re starting at the bottom of another ladder.

Ken Rosenthal

We say, rock bottom, because it is a hard place to be in. If it were softer and more fun, we would never see how far we can go. Instead of viewing life as either up or down, let us zoom out and view life differently.

What if we saw this so called, bottom, as a plateau instead? It is not that we have fallen, but really we have climbed up upon a place that is the top. The top of wherever we were, and maybe – just maybe – we simply cannot see the incline up to our next level; not yet anyway.

If a little weed can grow where there is not any soil, and no protection and still sprout up, we too can grow where we thought there was nothing. It is only in our limited thinking that we cannot do it. This was my thought as a saw the little green evidence of life peeking out from under a metal box that had been left too long on the concrete. Wow, what strong willed it must have been.

Changing the way we view life can change the way we move through life.

The grand plans we make for ourselves are only our imagination showing us some option that could be. I think it is good to plan ahead, but more importantly as we plan, to know that we have no control over what is to be. Plan with the openness to allow a higher power to guide you, to place the next step in from of you, that is for you to take. Just as we hold our children’s hands as they begin to walk around, make room for the Creator to step in, and like His child, hold your hand to guide your steps.

The only thing we need to move forward, to expand ourselves, to grow is motivation. In the depths of sadness when we cannot see the way, motivation can be the hardest thing to find. To be honest, I have sat in despair and wondered what to do. This is no easy task but we can start small and work our way to be fully there in this mindset. We can do this!

Training our mind to see positive through the cloud of darkness is a skill that can be strengthened over time with daily effort. I like to use the things I cherish, find inspiring and love to keep me on the path of optimism. Some days it is easy, some days it is much harder. It really begins with gratitude for each small blessing that we have. It may seem mundane to continue saying, but the little things in life are truly the big things. So enjoy the star filled sky, the bird sitting on a branch, or the sun shining. It is all created for you.

Connecting Nature to you:

  • How can you find inspiration to propel you forward?
  • In what ways can you find motivation to grow from the hard places?
  • How do you choose to see the moment before your next upward journey?
